Ruth healed from type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and diverticulitis on carnivore diet

Ruth’s Health Challenges

Three years ago, Ruth was facing a third colon resection while battling chronic gut infections that returned whenever she discontinued antibiotics. How did things get this bad?

Diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2008, Ruth saw her medications progressively increasing. She was facing the reality of becoming insulin dependent.

Recurrent bouts of diverticulitis had resulted in the need to undergo two colon resections wearing a colostomy bag for nine months.

Ruth was obese, suffering from chronic pain such that every part of her body was hurting while being unable to sleep. She was extremely unhappy as a person.

Her husband was very fit and athletic and did not want to spend the rest of his life taking care of a sick wife. Ruth says that “he had emotionally checked out,” so she was facing yet another stressful possibility in her future: the end of her marriage.

Starting Her Health Journey

Ruth initially began her health journey by starting a ketogenic diet and counting carbs while working on cutting out bread, pasta, sugar, and similar carbohydrate-heavy foods. “After two months, I started keto and cut it down to 20 grams/day.”

From Keto To Real Whole Foods

The reality of carbohydrate addiction became quite obvious to Ruth, as she says, “I would lay in bed, wondering if I could get up and sneak a piece of bread without my husband noticing. It would keep me awake at night.”

Ruth successfully transitioned to a diet of “Real whole foods, meat-based keto, broccoli, cauliflower, leafy greens, trying to keep carbs under 20.”

Cutting Out Plants For Better Health

After some time, Ruth realized it was time to further refine her diet. “I just wasn’t really enjoying eating the plants, and sometimes when I would eat them, I would have the irritable bowel syndrome..” This change brought results! “Once I cut out the plants, not only had I cured my diabetes, but I also discovered that I no longer had irritable bowel. My body is much happier without the fiber.”

Her diet now consists of bacon and cream cheese for lunch and meat for dinner. She does use some condiments, such as Dijon mustard, on her pork chops.

The Healing Journey

Ruth experienced healing of her other issues: “I was not achy anymore, my joints didn’t hurt. My eyesight got better, I continued to lose weight, I just feel like a new person.”

The Happy Ending

She has lost 90 lbs and says she has 20 to go, but her life has changed: “My skin has cleared up, no more rashes or itchiness. I can keep up with my husband now. We hike, we bike, and he’s very happy. ”

There’s no going back because Ruth says, “I don’t miss the foods I used to eat at all because I’m satisfied, I’m not hungry.” And the happy ending to this nutritional journey is that her marriage was saved: “Not only has it healed my health issues, but it has healed my marriage.”
